And until Dec. 20th, I am offering a sale on my photography prints. When you buy one print, you get one 50% off of equal or lesser value.

Thanks and happy shopping!

Pricing

Whenever you're put in the position of pricing your products, it can be really hard to decide what is fair and profitable at the same time. There are many things to consider including the cost of creating your item, the time it took to make it, and how much profit you'd like to make from selling it.

Any seller on Etsy would probably love to make loads and loads of money off their products, but it's crucial to sell at a good price that people will actually pay for. Sell your products for too much and no one will buy them, but sell them for too little and you won't make much profit.

Considering things on Etsy are handmade, I think most buyers are a bit more forgiving when it comes to pricing. The things people sell on Etsy are not mass-produced, including my own paper roses. While photography prints are a different story, handmade gifts take a lot of time and effort to create. It takes me about 20 minutes to make one rose, or three every hour. I have to consider the amount of time it takes me to make them when setting a price.

Every once in a while I'll look over the prices for my products or even my shipping and make adjustments if I think it needs it. Updating your shop is important, especially if people aren't biting. While this may or may not be related to your pricing, it never hurts to give it a look.

Photo shoot

I find myself getting frustrated when it comes to taking photos of my products. The lighting is never right, its either too bright or too dark. Some paper roses don't photograph well, either because of the pattern or because of the color. I have a super duper nice camera (Canon Rebel XS) so I don't think that's the problem.

It must just be me and my lack of skills. I'm not really used to taking photos of an object and worrying about lighting or whether the product looks good. I'm more of a "artsy" photographer I suppose, and don't usually do anything to change the lighting or effects in the image. The photo is what it is.

I tried my best to capture the item in its best light, but after a couple of hours shooting hundreds of images I was starting to give up. I tried shooting near a bright open window for once, rather than in my studio with a couple bright lights. Though I think I'm liking the way the studio shots turned out rather than the natural daylight ones. The ones shot with lamps have a much warmer feel to them, and I think the colors turn out better and closer to the real thing. Though, I was near a very bright window with the sun setting so maybe it was too much light. I guess it'll just take some experimentation.

Grand opening!

When I officially opened up shop this past September, it was the start of a long awaited project I have been considering for years. I had always wanted to sell photography on Etsy, but never had the gumption to do it. But I finally went into it head on and have been having fun with it ever since.

Photography is my passion, but I was wanting more. I didn't want to only sell photography and began thinking about how to expand snapadream. The result being a crazy crafting spree of making paper roses and bottles of origami lucky stars to sell as well.

I have many other projects lined up and I'm hoping to add more things to snapadream by the end of the month. This whole process of opening up shop, learning from my mistakes, and making my very first sale has all been an exciting experience.

I hope that anyone who becomes a fan of my blog or snapadream enjoys reading my thoughts on selling on Etsy and just being crafty. Thank you!
